Multimedia Storytelling Highlights | 2009-2015

WHAT'S COMPETENCY-BASED EDUCATION?

Partnered with CBE Network to conceive and create a playful, easy-to-understand intro to Competency-Based Education. The project aimed to correct misconceptions, inform new audiences, and inspire unity among diverse CBE efforts across the country.

SHARING HPV VACCINE SUCCESSES

Partnered with PATH to set communication goals and create a cost-effective video to pair with a written report. Premiering at WHO forum for diverse global health stakeholders, the video served to entice the audience to read the report...in English or French.

PROMOTING PRODUCTIVITY IN HIGHER ED

Helen served the Lumina Foundation Productivity Initiative for four years, meeting quarterly to collaborate with other Thought Partners, to advise and support this policy-related program aimed at increasing greater "productivity" in state higher education. My Catalytica team informed and supported Lunina's learning and advocacy work, including creating approx. 20 multimedia stories over several years.

EMPOWERING WOMEN WITH LAND TITLES

Helen advised Landesa to think beyond a one-time us video for their annual fundraiser, developing a creative strategy that leveraged existing, non-professional footage. Catalytica created this mixed-media story that kicked off a string of collaborations with Landesa.

MAKING SCIENCE FUN & REAL

Partnering with EduCuriousscience educators, Catalytica brought science to life for 9th and 10th graders through 11 videos for two pilot modules: Climate Change and Pandemic Disease. This is a "teaser" of one climate change story. Student evaluations indicated the video stories made their lessons more engaging and memorable. Collaborating with us in this pilot program helped the educators understand how video can be used to enhance their curricula.

COOL SCIENCE TO FIGHT PANDEMICS

This is a "teaser" of our pandemic disease curricula video brought public health to life for 9th and 10th graders, helping them see how science is applied in the "real world." This pilot project received high marks from students and educator helped our client, EduCurious set standard for future use of video in their teaching programs.

"TUNING" HIGHER EDUCATION

Catalytica received a 1-year grant from Lumina Foundationto document key milestones in their 3-state pilot initiative called Tuning USA, and translate the year’s learning into a creative, engaging and candid video for discerning (aka skeptical) higher education audiences. This animated video was supplemented by eight, shorter “issue” videos.

BETTER IMMUNIZATION DATA

Collaborated with PATHto gain the support of African healthcare leaders managers and workers for an initiative aimed at examining the knotted issues keeping them from successfully closing the immunization gap in Africa. A big challenge was outsider fatigue among the audience, so the goal was to help the African audience see PATH's BID Initiative as a means for them to finally untangle the issues on their own.

MAKING SENSE OF SUPPLY CHAINS

Helen guided PATHto envision and create video promoting improvement in global vaccine supply chains to diverse international audience. By curating footage from existing sources, Catalytica bridged the gap between PATH’s budget and goals, and brought to life a story that received high approval from diverse international reviewers and stakeholders.

BUILDING A BUZZ FOR ZERO CARBON

In 2010, Helen imagined Race to Zero City: a grassroots campaign to help Seattle become the first carbon neutral city in North America, by 2030. Our volunteer Race to Zero City team helped Seattle City Council build buzz for exploring carbon neutrality and highlighted voluntary efforts of Seattle’s 2030 District. Seattle backed down from the  2030 goal, but Race to Zero City lives onvia Facebook.
